Electrical Fire in Denton Displaces Family of Four, Kills Pet Rabbit
DENTON, Md. – An electrical fire displaced a family of four and killed their pet rabbit on Tuesday afternoon.
At 12:35 p.m. on Dec. 9, crews from the Denton Volunteer Fire Department and other area companies responded to a one-story residence on Harmony Road after a passerby reported a fire. It reportedly took an hour for 30 firefighters to put out the blaze.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined the fire to be accidental in nature; the result of faulty energized electrical branch wiring. While a majority of the fire was contained to a bathroom in the home, there was significant smoke and water damage throughout the residence. The total damage to the house and its contents is estimated to be valued at $150,000.
The displaced family, including two adults and two children, is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
