DE State Treasurer Colleen Davis to Retire
DELAWARE – Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis announced on Friday that she will retire after serving her current term.
Davis has served in the role since 2019. She notably helped create the Delaware EARNS Program, which made saving for retirement more accessible to citizens across the state.
“After months of reflection, I’ve decided that this term will be my last,” Davis wrote in her announcement. “It’s the right moment for me, both personally and professionally, and I want to make room for a new leader to step up. But in the 13 months ahead, my focus will remain exactly where it has always been: delivering results for the people of Delaware.”
Davis reflected on her tenure, highlighting the work her administration accomplished throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the growth of Delaware’s savings programs and investment returns. She concluded her statement with the following remarks:
“For the remainder of my term, I will continue working closely with the Meyer Administration and the General Assembly to advance policies that will keep Delaware’s finances strong for years to come. And I’ll ensure a smooth transition for the next Treasurer. This has been an incredible journey. I owe so much to the support of an amazing network of friends, family, and everyday Delawareans who wanted a Treasurer committed to protecting our state’s finances while uplifting working people. And I’m grateful for my incredible team at the Office of the State Treasurer. They work hard every single day to make life better in our state. Finally, I have to thank the people of Delaware for entrusting me with this duty. It has truly been the honor of a lifetime.”
Senate President Pro Tempore Dave Sokola and House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown issued a joint-statement reacting to Davis’s anouncement, in part writing:
“On behalf of our colleagues in the Senate and House Majority Caucuses, we want to extend our most sincere gratitude to State Treasurer Colleen Davis for her years of dedicated service to the people of Delaware. Immediately upon taking office in 2019, Colleen got to work forging strong partnerships with us in the Legislature and advocating for a robust slate of legislation to benefit the lives of young children, workers, and retirees across our state… We thank her for her collaboration, creativity, and constituent-centered approach to governance, and wish her all the best in whatever she chooses to do next.”
