MILLSBORO Del., – Beebe Healthcare broke ground on a major expansion in Millsboro. The new facility will be right in the heart of the town, making healthcare more accessible and affordable.

Sussex County EMS Director, Robert Murray, was at the event. When he gave his speech, he compared the expansion to sports.  “There is a saying in sports that your best ability is availability.”

The campus is strategically located near the new DelDOT bypass at Dupont Boulevard and Hardscrabble Road, improving access for residents and emergency responders.

The 48,000 square feet health campus will include.

· 16 emergency exam/treatment rooms and two dedicated pediatric rooms staffed by Nemours Children’s Health specialists

· 12 walk-in care exam rooms for non-emergency needs

· Advanced diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography, and X-ray) with a separate outpatient waiting area

· On-site lab services for faster results

· Pharmacy operations and retail pharmacy for convenience

· A dedicated on-grade helipad for rapid air transport when higher-level care is needed.

Mayor Bob McKee said having this be close is a major milestone.  “It’s a life-changing thing for the residents in Millsboro having this kind of healthcare so close to our community.”

There has been rapid population rise in Millsboro, which grew at a rate of 10% between 2020 and 2023, and projects an increased demand for healthcare services over the next decade.

Mayor McKee says the most important factor is time. There are few healthcare options in Central Sussex County, but with the upcoming project, things will likely change for the better.

“It brings a whole new potential now. It’s going to save a half hour, 45 minutes to an hour. People go to the beach communities where the hospitals are. To have this in our backyard is a luxury, said Mayor McKee.

TidalHealth recently broke ground on a Millsboro campus earlier in the year. Beebe Healthcare Board of Directors, Bonnie Hall, says the timing made sense.

“This area is growing fast by leaps and bounds. Beebe is in the middle of the growth and is here to offer affordable and accessible healthcare to the community and residents who live here.”

Mayor McKee kept things short and sweet with WMDT on the project groundbreaking. “It’s gonna save lives and make a difference.”
