43rd Annual Governor’s Challenge to Kick Off Next Week
MARYLAND. — Families from far and wide will travel to Delmarva next week for the 43rd annual Governor’s Challenge.
Games will be held at the Wicomico Civic Center, Salisbury Christian School, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and Wicomico High School starting Friday, Dec. 26. The final sessions will wrap up on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Tournament director James Simmons says teams from as far as California, Florida, and Canada will be in town for the tournament. “We’ll have 130 high school basketball teams from 12 states and Canada this year. We will see future NBA and college stars, along with all of our local programs from across Delmarva participating. It’s really a celebration of basketball here on the Eastern Shore.”
Through the Butch Waller Scholarship Fund, two players will be awarded $1,000 college scholarships.
The tournament is operating with a new ticket model this year, with a more limited capacity than in previous years. Organizers recommend securing tickets in advance. To purchase tickets or view schedules, visit https://www.governorschallenge.org/high-school.
