Worcester County residents will see increase in water bills

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester County will be increasing water and wastewater rates. Water and sewer users will see this increase in their water bills beginning this quarter.
All 11 Sanitary Services Areas will be impacted, and county officials say it’s due to cover operating and maintenance costs.
The county’s Enterprise Fund Controller Quinn Dittrich said finances have been tight, and local officials had to make this decision.
“Wastewater and water treatment facilities have been underfunded for years, and they are experiencing increased costs for utilities and chemicals.”
The service areas were designed to fund themselves, but they were unable to due to the fiscal issue.
If the rates had remained flat from fiscal year 2025, revenues would not cover actual expenses for FY26 in each of the service areas.
