Weather Tidbits: Downed Power Line Safety Tips

We’ll be discussing downed power line safety in this edition of Weather Tidbits. Power lines can be brought down by high-end wind events. If you see a downed power line on the street, you should stay at least 30 feet away from it. Rather than handling the situation yourself, be sure to report the downed power lines to your utility company immediately. Never touch a downed power line. Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Do not attempt to move the power lines because even items that are not typically conductive, like a tree branch in contact with the wire, could still cause serious injury.
