SALISBURY, Md. – The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Saturday, Nov. 8 in City Park.

All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer’s further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All walkers are asked to register and sign a standard waiver ahead of the walk, but there is no mandatory fee to participate. Strollers are permitted on the walk, but skateboards, bicycles, inline skates and wheelie footwear are all discouraged. This walk is a rain-or-shine event, and will be cancelled in the case of severe weather.

You can register ahead of the walk here. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by a ceremony at 10:00 a.m. and the walk beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday is also National Lung Cancer Screening Day. According to the American Lung Association, it claims more lives annually than colon, breast and prostate cancer combined, and those who smoke or have smoked are at higher risk.

There’s a number of places offering CT scans and other screenings this weekend. These Saturday sessions are being added to assist people who might not be able to attend regular weekday screenings, but if you can’t make it, regular checkups are available throughout the year. One of those places is Peninsula Imaging in the Woodbrooke medical complex—that’s happening from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Technicians are asking people to sign up this week ahead of the event.

The Community Players of Salisbury are also performing a production of Annie at the Wicomico High School Auditorium this weekend. The timeless Broadway sensation Annie tells the story of a spirited young orphan whose optimism and courage inspire everyone she meets. Packed with unforgettable songs like “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Maybe,” and “Tomorrow,” the musical delivers humor, heart, and a message of hope that continues to captivate audiences around the world, making Annie one of the most popular family musicals of all time. A talented cast of local performers — including many familiar faces from the Eastern Shore — bring 1930’s New York City to life, complete with the lovable dog Sandy, a chorus of orphans, and audience favorites like Daddy Warbucks, the scheming Miss Hannigan, and the compassionate Grace Farrell.

There will be four performances in total; one showing on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m., two showings on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and one showing on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2:00 p.m. You can get your tickets here.
