Veterans to be honored at CHEER Annual Dinner Dance in Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Del. — Veterans in Sussex County will be celebrated this Friday at the annual Veterans Day Dinner Dance hosted by the CHEER Community Center in Georgetown.
The event, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m., features dinner, music, and dancing — all free for veterans. Spouses and guests can attend for $10. Organizers describe the celebration as a “five-star event” that honors and thanks local veterans for their service.
“I always kept it at $10 for a guest, a non-military person, for a hot meal, entertainment, being able to dance, and seeing a first-class ceremony,” said Walter Koopman, CHEER president and a veteran.
This year’s event will feature live music by Sky Brady and a full dinner menu including ham, sweet and sour meatballs, fried chicken, and other dishes.
“If it’s your first time coming, come out,” Koopman said. “We really appreciate you coming. And when the veterans see other people — a lot of them know if they are a vet or not — it just does something inside of us to know we have support from our families and community.”
The dinner dance will take place at the CHEER Community Center on Sand Hill Road in Georgetown. For more information or to reserve a spot, call CHEER at (302) 515-0001.
