Veterans Honored at Rehoboth Beach Ceremony

Rehoboth

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — Veterans, families, and community members gathered Monday at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand to honor those who have served and sacrificed for the nation.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony featured patriotic music, remarks from local leaders, and a solemn moment of silence for fallen service members. Following the event, attendees were invited to gatherings at VFW Post 7447 and American Legion Post 5.

Captain Dave Diefenderfer of the United States Navy Reserves said serving was a way to give back to his country.

“I always wanted to serve my country, so it was a way of giving back to the country, defending the nation, and carrying on the legacy of all the other veterans that have been in the military before me,” Diefenderfer said.

Many who attended said Veterans Day is not only about honoring those who served in the past but also about recognizing the sacrifices made by active service members today.

“You can always just thank a veteran for whatever he’s done,” Diefenderfer added. “If there are veterans in need, you can always help them out.”

Organizers and attendees alike emphasized that honoring veterans should be an everyday effort — not limited to just one day a year.
