Updates Underway at Waterside Park
SALISBURY, Md. — Salisbury’s Waterside Park is getting some long-awaited renovations. The project is one of many the city is planning to revitalize Salisbury’s west side.
The city plans to build restrooms and a pavilion to help make the park suitable for holding events and after-school programs. City officials say the updates will help complete the park and provide neighbors with the community space they deserve.
“It’s been on the books for about four or five years. We finally got it over the finish line and got an adequate bid, and we’re ready to move forward,” Mayor Randy Taylor said.
The renovations will also include new fencing, lighting, and a freshly paved parking lot. City Councilwoman April Jackson says the renovations will provide community space for residents of Salisbury’s west side.
“We have The Village at Mitchell Pond, we have Mitchell Landing, and we also have the kids on Fitzwater Street. It can be a park that families can join together and have fun,” Jackson said.
City officials say Phase 1 of the project will cost roughly $650,000. The city plans to replace the park’s playground in Phase 2 of the project and possibly partner with the nearby church to introduce after-school programs at the park.
“They’re getting ready to do an expansion there, which would be a great addition to what we’re already doing at Waterside. There’s a lot of residential in that area, so we’re hoping that we can partner with them and provide staffing for after-school programs, including STEM and athletic programs,” Taylor said.
The city hopes to kick off renovations in the next couple of weeks and begin Phase 2 in the spring.
