UPDATE: Statement Issued Following Threat Against Arcadia Middle
UPDATE: Superintendent of Accomack County Public Schools Dr. Gennifer Miller has issued a statement following the threat made against Arcadia Middle School (AMS) on Tuesday morning.
“At approximately 8:50 a.m. today, staff at AMS were alerted to a note written on the bathroom wall threatening to blow up the school. In immediate coordination with law enforcement, all students and staff were evacuated to Arcadia High School (AHS) while law enforcement commenced its initial assessment. Due to the early release schedule, students were provided lunch at AHS, and staff remained with their students. As of 11:30 this morning, law enforcement completed its comprehensive security sweep, determined that there is not a threat to the school, and is now working with ACPS administrators as the investigation continues. Students and staff returned to AMS, and all normal school operations resumed. We extend our sincere gratitude to our first responders and to the AMS and AHS staff whose coordinated and composed efforts upheld the highest standards of student and staff safety.”
UPDATE: In an update posted to social media at 11:05 a.m., school officials stated that there is no continued threat to the middle school at this time.
“Law enforcement has concluded their sweep of the school, and in collaboration with division leadership,” the update read in part.
Students will finish lunch at AHS and then return to AMS for the remainder of the day.
