UMES officials emphasize safety ahead of Homecoming Week
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is gearing up for its annual homecoming week, with students, alumni, and visitors set to enjoy a packed schedule of celebrations — from concerts and cookouts to the big football game this weekend.
As excitement builds, university officials are reminding everyone to keep safety in mind. The UMES Department of Public Safety says it has been working closely with event organizers and student leaders to ensure all activities run smoothly.
“We want everyone to enjoy themselves and have a great time, but also make it a memorable and safe homecoming,” said Chief Mark Tyler of the UMES Police Department. “Be mindful of the crowds and make sure to follow the rules set by the university.”
Tyler said law enforcement officers will be present at all major events, and he encouraged attendees to report anything unusual.
“If you see something suspicious, the easiest thing to do is to find one of the officers or call 911,” he said.
Anyone with concerns during the events can also contact UMES Campus Police at 410-651-6590.
The university says its goal is to maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere as the campus community comes together to celebrate homecoming week.
