The Brightside: Robotics lovers

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Come to Parkside High School after hours on Tuesday nights and you’ll find a room full of students hard at work building robots.
But the learners aren’t just Parkside Rams, they’re students from every part of Wicomico County, and they all gather at the school in Salisbury for the robotics club. Take Anshul Vasmate, for instance.
“I’m currently a senior at Bennet, but I come here to do robotics at Parkside,” said Vasmate.
The groups head coach, Corey Phillips said they’re putting their skills to the test to build a trophy-winning bot, capable of mastering this year’s task.
“The game, this year, revolves around picking up a bunch of circular objects and putting them in certain locations and pushing opposing teams out and defending your scores,” Phillips said.
And because he has some tenure under his belt, Vasmate has been leading his peers in the build.
“This year I’m with a couple of my friends; they’re currently freshmen, so I’m guiding them through that,” Vasmate said. “I’m basically helping them a little because they were a part of the middle school team.”
