Smyrna High Student Arrested for Bringing BB-Style Pistol to School
SMYRNA, Del. – The Smyrna Police Department (SPD) has arrested a 16-year-old male student after police say he brought a “BB style pistol” to school on Tuesday.
On Nov. 18, SPD’s School Resource Officer assigned to Smyrna High School was notified of a student possessing what appeared to be a firearm within the Smyrna High School. This report was made after the school day had concluded.
The following day, before the start of school, police and Smyrna School District constables contacted the juvenile student in question. Police conducted a search of the student and discovered a firearm, later determined to be a “BB style pistol.”
As a result of this investigation, police say the juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm in a safe school zone. The juvenile was arraigned in the Family Court of Kent County and released on his own recognizance, pending a future court date.
