SMYRNA, Del. – Members of the Smyrna Educators Association lined the sidewalk outside Smyrna High School on Friday evening, holding signs and chanting for better pay ahead of the school’s home football game.

The group of teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff stood near the stadium entrance as fans arrived, carrying bright yellow and orange posters that read “0% = No Respect” and “Harms Staff Morale.” The demonstration came amid an ongoing dispute with the Smyrna School District over salary increases.

The educators’ union represents more than 500 employees and has been in talks with district leaders since the start of the school year. Members say they plan to continue their public demonstrations until an agreement is reached.

Friday’s protest remained peaceful, with educators waving at passing cars and receiving supportive honks from drivers as the crowd grew before kickoff.
