Salvation Army Kicks Off Red Kettle Drive
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The official start of the holiday season is just a couple of weeks away. And one group is ready to take to the streets for one staple of giving.
Wednesday is the start of something that’s a holiday staple in any community as the Salvation Army is kicking off their red Kettle Drive.
Starting Thursday, over 75 volunteers from various groups across the Mid-Shore will be out at a few popular places over the next few weeks. Where they’ll be ringing the bell for donations.
This is the biggest fundraiser for the Salvation Army.
And Major David Lorenzo, who oversees the Salvation Army of Cambridge is looking forward to all those across the Mid-Shore coming together to lend a hand.
“I mean, we have been serving the Mid-Shore for 113 year plus. So when we see the community come in coming along and volunteering and helping us arrange it recently, the funding, it is just encouraging,” says Lorenzo.
Volunteers are coming from all across the Mid-Shore, making this feel like a united effort this holiday season.
Troy Paul with the Salvation Army of Cambridge says, “From Cambridge all the way up to the Bay Bridge there. These folks really support their their community. The Eastern Shore is known for supporting their people in their community members. And they do that by multiple different ways, but especially here at Christmas time by ringing a bell.”
WMDT asked Major Lorenzo this morning about the goal for this year’s Red Kettle Drive, and he says they’re hoping the Salvation Army can reach their goal of 100 thousand dollars in donations.
If you want to help ring the bell in the Mid-Shore this holiday season, you can register to volunteer at the Salvation Army’s website.
