Queen Anne’s rolls past Easton in road playoff victory
EASTON, Md. – Queen Anne’s football took down Easton 49-13 Thursday night in the second round of the MPSSAA 2A/1A Tournament in Easton.
The game started with both teams playing stout defense. It was a scoreless first quarter until Queen Anne’s Chance Hegedus intercepted Brady Walls and returned it for a touchdown, giving the Lions the lead with just seconds remaining in the period.
The second quarter began with Hegedus picking off Walls a second time, and the Lions turned that favorable field position into a touchdown with a connection from Colton Starling to Jadereon Thompson.
Down 14-0 late in the second quarter, Easton put together a drive that culminated in a Carter Mooney touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 14-7 heading into the break.
The teams traded turnovers early in the third quarter, but Queen Anne’s found their footing more quickly than the Warriors. Lions running back DeRodney Smith took the game over, scoring three times on three consecutive drives in the final five minutes of the third. Smith reached the end zone again in the fourth, but the third quarter onslaught had essentially put the game out of reach.
