Pocomoke Police working with local church for Thanksgiving Food Drive

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – The Pocomoke Police is working with a local church, The Greater New Macedonia Church, to pass out meals.

The event began at 5 p.m., and the city’s police department will give away around 75 turkeys and 50 food boxes.

The address is 518 Young Street, and will be held at the parking lot of the church.

Cpl. Ray Fitchett works as a community liaison for the department. He said this idea came about due to the SNAP benefits ending from the Federal Government Shutdown.

The Cpl. talks about being a positive role model in the community. Saying these events get him and his department excited.

“Hopefully that they see us in a different light other than nust for calls and service. I mean, it’s easy for a cop to respond when they are told to, but responding when people are needed but not actually called is a whole different ballgame.”
