Ocean City officials have spent a chunk of change to fight against offshore wind

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Officials continue their fight against U.S. Wind’s offshore wind farm project.

The project is proposed to be installed ten miles off the Atlantic coastline. The Biden administration originally approved the move.

The current Trump administration then halted it. They cited issues with national security, environment, and coastline aesthetic.

Anglers have also shown concern about fish populations. Ocean City has invested around $400,000 in legal representation in the fight.

Resort town’s City Manager Terry McGean is calling the investment necessary.

“We wish we didn’t have to go this route, but we were forced into this. I think it’s important to remember that U.S. Wind and the state of Maryland have made zero concessions to address our concerns.”

Officials are saying they will spend whatever it takes to stop this project, according to WMDT.

Proponents say offshore wind farms bring cheaper, cleaner energy – and local jobs.
