Local oversight for tax-funded cannabis community grants

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – County Commissioners are looking at the potential idea of handing over grants to a local board.

The move would allow over $1 million in cannabis funded community grants to be taken out of county elected officials.

The management board would distribute funds to the applicants who applied back in the early summer.

Ian Chenkin of Hi-Tide Dispensary tells WMDT, he approves of the move.

“As a dispensary, we always love to see the tax money that is generated from this area, be utilized in the area to enrich the community around us. We will always champion those things for the people that support us.”

The county opened up the grant application earlier this summer. Several groups have applied for the grant, including Diakonia, We Heart Berlin, and Habitat for Humanity.
