Local Boys & Girls club manager uses side hustle for good
SALISBURY, Md. – A local director at the Boys and Girls Club in Salisbury is creatively trying to change lives using the music medium as a voice. Enaka Beteck describes himself as the voice of the voiceless.
“I was raised in, I grew up in, and went to school at WiHi and WiMiddle, and now the boys and girls club is in the same neighborhood I grew up in,” said Beteck.
His rap name is Noc Beteck, and he tells WMDT that he has been in love with music at a young age.
“My younger days, I always had a feeling and thought that the type of music I was making wasn’t something people wanted to hear or didn’t like it.”
He started this creative aspiration since high school. Beteck doesn’t like how music can skew the perception of young children, similar to his childhood with the likes of 50 Cent, Jay Z, and JadaKiss.
He wants his music to have more positive themes other than drugs, violence, and lust. “Music was the way to share my wisdom, to motivate, to inspire.”
His music explores themes focusing on peer pressures, social inequities, and neighborhood politics. Noc hopes his music can be a beacon of leadership for the youth’s lives.
“To teach them to be true and authentic to themselves, that you don’t need to do what everyone else is doing, that you don’t need to follow what everyone else is doing, follow what’s in your heart.”
He adds that he performs for club members from time to time, and that has offered a big boost in music plays.
“My kids are always telling me ‘I shared your music, I shared your music, on my TikTok or Instagram, and that makes me very proud to hear that.”
