Lake Forest prevails, Woodbridge honors Preston Grace
GREENWOOD, Del. – Lake Forest beat Woodbridge 35-6 on Friday in Greenwood.
The Blue Raiders got out to a quick start, with their defense forcing a turnover on downs and the offense converting the following possession into a Malachi Hayes touchdown.
From there, Lake Forest responded with two rushing touchdowns from Andrew White and one from Demarion Russ to take a 21-6 lead into. The Spartans were able to put the game away in the second half.
But at halftime of the game, spectators got a reminder that some things are bigger than numbers on a scoreboard, with a ceremony honoring the late Preston Grace. Grace was a staple of the Woodbridge community, graduating from the school in 1987 then spent decades giving back as a coach before he sadly passed away in January of 2023. The Blue Raiders officially dedicated their locker room in his name.
Woodbridge Head Coach Marvin Dooley remembered Grace after the ceremony: “When you talk about Woodbridge, he was Woodbridge. He was he was the epitome of what a Woodbridge Raider is. Great effort, never quit even when times were down for him. I knew him for a lot of years before I got here, but when I was here he was really sick. The man never missed a practice. He would go to dialysis, come to practice…He’s smiling, there’s no doubt about it. Preston had a great personality. He’d be cutting jokes with everybody. He’s probably up there saying, ‘Why are you making a big deal of it?’ but he was a big deal.”
