House Fire in East New Market Displaces Five
EAST NEW MARKET, Md. – The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire that displaced a family of five on Monday morning.
At 4:29 a.m. on Nov. 24, crews from the East New Market Volunteer Fire Department responded to a home on Belle Aire Road following the report of a fire by a resident. The home was equipped with smoke alarms that alerted the family and allowed them to escape.
Fifty firefighters battled the blaze for fifteen minutes. The total damage to the property and its contents is estimated to be $65,000.
The fire is believed to have originated in the laundry room of the home, but the preliminary cause is still under investigation.
The displaced family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
