Harrington Man Arrested following Shooting Incident

HARRINGTON, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested a man following a shooting incident that took place Friday afternoon.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 7, troopers responded to the 1000 block of Staytonville Road following a report of shots fired. When troopers arrived, they learned that a man, later identified as 60-year-old John Allen, was standing near the roadway with his hands in the air, and appeared to be waving down a vehicle.

Two vehicles stopped, and the victim attempted to talk to Allen, who was yelling at the driver of the first vehicle that stopped. While talking to Allen, the victim saw that he had a gun in his hand, and as he drove away, Allen fired shots at him. No one was injured.

Allen was arrested without incident and taken to Troop 3. He was charged with first degree reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and failure to comply with taking of photos and fingerprints. He arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $23,500 cash bond.
