Firefighter’s Camden Home Struck by Lightning While on Duty
CAMDEN, Del. – A fundraiser has been started for a firefighter and his family after they lost their home to a lightning strike on Sunday night.
John Lecompte has been a firefighter with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department for 19 years, and is currently stationed at Station 31. He was on duty on Nov. 9 when a sudden lightning strike ignited a devastating fire at his family’s home in Camden.
The family, comprised of John, his wife, and their four children — Ethan (21), Evan (15), Beckett (7), and Emelia (4) — have lost nearly everything they owned. A fundraiser has been started online by the Anne Arundel County Professional Firefighters Association Local 1563 to help the Lecompte family.
“In the fire service, we have each other’s backs. We are a family. When one of us is in need, we all step up. John has always answered the call for us. Today, we are answering the call for him,” the fundraiser’s main page reads. “This fundraiser gives us a way to directly support the Lecompte family. We are raising funds to help them secure housing, replace clothes and essentials, and begin the long, difficult process of rebuilding.”
At the time of publication, nearly $20,000 has been raised to help the Lecomptes. However, they still need help getting to their goal of $33,000.
