Electrical Fire in Federalsburg Destroys Home; Kills Four Pets

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – An electrical fire destroyed a home in Dorchester County and displaced two on Wednesday afternoon.

On Nov. 19 at 2:40 p.m., the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department responded to Webster Street following the report of a fire. Forty-five firefighters battled the blaze for 15 minutes.

One of the occupants was home at the time of the fire and was awoken by the smoke alarms. They were able to escape through a bedroom window.

The total damage to the property is estimated to be $300,000. Three cats and one dog perished in the fire.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal has investigated the fire and determined the cause to be an accidental electrical fire that originated in the kitchen.

The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
