Delaware launches holiday road-safety campaign, brings back sober ride vouchers
DELAWARE — The Delaware Office of Highway Safety has launched its statewide holiday road-safety campaign, marking the return of its sober ride voucher program designed to reduce impaired driving during the busiest travel season of the year.
At an event on Wednesday morning, officials highlighted the annual initiative, which offers up to $20 off Uber and Lyft rides on select dates. The goal, they said, is to encourage people to plan safe rides home rather than risk getting behind the wheel while impaired. The vouchers will be available on Thanksgiving Eve and on additional upcoming holidays.
“This campaign is important to remind people to go out and have a good time, but it’s not okay to drink and be impaired behind the wheel,” said Sharon Bryson, director of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. “There are other choices to get home safely.”
Bryson said officials want drivers to make responsible decisions, especially as holiday travel increases.
“Make a safe choice,” she said. “Make sure that when you’re driving, you’re not fatigued, you’re not distracted, you’re not impaired. Save all the fun for when you get to your destination.”
Authorities urge anyone who sees an impaired driver or suspicious behavior on the road to call 911. More information about the sober ride voucher program is available on the Office of Highway Safety’s website.
