CO2 Detector Goes Off at West Seaford Elementary

Seaford Fire Department Needs Volunteers

SEAFORD, Del. – The Seaford Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) responded to West Seaford Elementary School on Friday afternoon following the activation of a CO₂ detector in the cafeteria.

The Seaford School District said that the building was evacuated at 1:45 p.m. as a precaution. The supplying utility company also temporarily shut off the gas.

Crews from SVFD are monitoring air quality levels. Once the building is cleared, students will return to classrooms for the remainder of the day. The district anticipates that the air quality will be back to normal quickly.

Due to the interruption in the assembly schedule, PBS assemblies originally planned for this afternoon will be rescheduled.

The district thanks SVFD for their prompt response.
