Chincoteague PD Warns Residents of Horse Fundraising Scam
CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – The Chincoteague Police Department is warning residents of an ongoing scam involving the Old Fashioned Parade scheduled for Dec. 6.
Police say they have been made aware of a person or persons claiming that Clydesdale horses have been “confirmed” to come to the Island. The individuals are then asking local businesses and community members for money to support their arrival.
Police have confirmed that there are no Clydesdale horses scheduled to come to Chincoteague, and no legitimate fundraising effort of the kind is currently underway. Authorities ask that local businesses and residents not to give money to anyone making this claim.
If you have already contributed funds to this cause, or have been approached and would like to report it, contact the Chincoteague Police Department at 757-336-3155 or stop by the department to speak with an officer.
