Cambridge Traffic to be Impacted by Repaving of City Streets
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – If you’re driving through the City of Cambridge over the course of the next week, you might want to start thinking about a new route now.
Cambridge city manager Glenn Steckman says this is replacing project for the entire city has been in the works for five years, with bids being sent out in 2024.
And he says this first round will run through the next week on several streets in Cambridge.
This round of re-pavement is serving multiple purposes, including bringing streets up to Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance.
“It’s a two fold project. We want to make sure obviously people can drive on better roads, but those that are impacted have physical disabilities, will able to cross streets…” says Glenn.
Steckman added the paving is also coinciding with the last days of closure for the Cambridge Creek Bridge.
However, he says the traffic delays now are a small price in comparison to having the streets integrity maintained for up to 20 years.
Glenn tells WMDT, “We also want to make sure, there aren’t, chuck holes and all those sort of things that may be in the street and actually are more costly as the streets break down. It’s more expensive to repair them.”
Repaving is expected to wrap up by Friday, November 14th.
