Hurlock Fire

HURLOCK, Md. – The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said an accidental fire caused by a heat lamp damaged a home in Hurlock Monday afternoon.

The call came in around 12:40 p.m. to a one story, single-family home on Cabin Ridge Road.

Investigators say the fire originated in a chicken coop built off a small shed near the home and was started by a heat lamp used to keep the chickens warm after it got to close to some bedding.

All the chickens survived. One person was transported from the scene to be treated for smoke inhalation.

It’s estimated that the fire caused $200,000 in property damage and $100,000 in damage to the contents of the structure.
