2025 Virginia Governor Race: Who will win the election?
VIRGINIA, – Tonight, the community will find the results for the 2025 Virginia Gubernatorial Election.
Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears running on the Republican side, and Congress Representative Abigail Spanberger, as the Democrat contender.
WMDT visited Chincoteague, Virginia, at one of the local polling sites.
Kevin O’ Conner was the voting center. He said this is a right for Americans.
“I think we all got to do our bid, and if you don’t vote, then you can’t complain about what happens. We are living in a time where everyone’s vote counts honestly.”
There will only be one winner. According to community member Beth Fisher, Virginia’s election has received national spotlight this cycle because of how close the race is. “Virginia can go either way.”
The two women have been battling and campaigning for months. Accomack County Democrats member Paula says she believes Representative Spanberger is the right person for the job.
“Virginia needs some forward thinking. Right now in our government, we don’t have forward thinking. So we need someone with experience who cares about education and rural health care.”
She adds that Virginia is the only Southern state to allow abortions. Something Rep. Spanberger has made a premiere focus in her campaign.
Captain Delmas Mears is a member of the Accomack County Republicans. He tells WMDT that Lt. Governor Earle-Sears represents Virginia in the best way.
“People should always vote for who they think is the best candidate, no matter their sex or race. I think Winsome Sears has proven as Lt. Governor of Virginia that she is up for the job. I believe she and Glenn Youngkin administration have done a great job for Virginia.”
Earle-Sears has shown vehement opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage. Her Christian faith plays a significant role in her conservative views and political actions.
Many political analysts have considered the race close. The winner will become the next state governor, making history as the state’s first-ever female governor.
Polls will close at 7 p.m.
WMDT will keep you posted on who wins the election.
