Worcester County Job Fair in Pocomoke

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – The Worcester County Job Fair returned to the Pocomoke Community Center, drawing many job seekers to the event.

Job seekers took the opportunity to stand out in Worcester County’s vibrant business community.

More than 20 companies participated in the fair. Worcester County Workforce Development Specialist Nancy Schwendeman organized the event and called it “an adventure.”

“It’s always a fun time getting all this together, and it’s really a great way for me to meet more employers in the county,” she said.

Delaware Elevator, Perdue Farms and Worcester County Government were among the participants.

Schwendeman estimated attendance at the community center, saying, “We hope to get a little over 100 people here today. We’ve been averaging between 105 and 115.” Img 6928

The Pocomoke Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event. President Lisa Taylor said having the fair in one facility benefits job seekers.

“They can visit many employers in one afternoon, as opposed to going door to door looking for a job,” she said.

Tara Bourne, director of the Pocomoke Community Center, told WMDT that hosting the fair was a great opportunity for her facility.

“We are a great venue space, and I think we are under-marketed,” she said. “I thought it was a great opportunity to offer a place for employers to come and for others to see what we have.”

Bourne adds the facility is home to many gatherings – and community members can reach out here if interested in scheduling an event.

“We host weddings, receptions, celebrations of life, and family reunions. We have a beautiful gathering space with a grand piano.”
