DELMARVA – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) assisted the Delaware State Police (DSP) with a multi-vehicle pursuit that spanned several counties on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 11:06 a.m. on Oct. 22, WCSO was contacted by DSP, who requested assistance with a stolen vehicle pursuit. Deputies learned that while DSP Troopers were pursuing the vehicle, the suspect crashed in Delaware, fled on foot, and was able to steal another car, a black minivan, which was then used to flee into Wicomico County. Troopers pursued the suspect vehicle into Wicomico, but lost sight of the minivan soon after entering Maryland.

Deputies searched the area for the vehicle in question, and soon located a black minivan attempting to hide in a gas station parking lot. When deputies attempted to make contact with the driver of the minivan, the van fled from the deputies who followed after.

The pursuit led through several rural areas of Dorchester and Caroline County, and back into a portion of Delaware before again returning to Caroline County. As the pursuit led into Denton, a much more congested traffic area, WCSO chose to terminate the pursuit for the safety of the public.

Deputies are currently working in collaboration with DSP to determine the identity of the suspect involved in the pursuit. Once identified, deputies say the suspect will be charged accordingly.
