Updates underway at Mason Dixon Sports Complex

DELMAR, Md. — Updates are underway at Delmar’s Mason-Dixon Sports Complex. The park closed Oct. 7 for phase one of the park development project.

The complex is primarily used for Delmar Little League baseball and softball, as well as USSSA softball tournaments. Soon, visitors will be able to enjoy new fields with updated dugouts, lights and fencing, along with new walking trails and a playground.

Delmar Town Manager Jeff Fleetwood said the updates were needed to address safety concerns and maximize the park’s potential. “What’s down there now, it’s functional, but it’s got some age to it,” Fleetwood said.

Phase two of the project will include a new concession stand, restrooms and a parking lot that will be shared with Delmar Elementary School. Wicomico County Recreation, Parks and Tourism Director Steve Miller said he hopes the park’s updates will bring out-of-town dollars into the community.

“With an upgraded facility like this, I think you can check both boxes where locals will get a lot more use, but you can also make it attractive enough that out-of-town guests would want to come here and have their events,” Miller said.

The current parking arrangements and field orientation at the complex have raised safety concerns. With the new updates, parents and players will no longer have to chase foul balls onto South Pennsylvania Avenue, and parked cars won’t have to back up into the busy street.

Officials hope the improvements will create more opportunities for sporting events in Wicomico County and provide more space for larger softball and baseball tournaments hosted at Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in Salisbury.

“What we envision in a couple of years is when we have four basically brand-new fields with new lights, this could complement the events that happen there so that if there’s overflow, you’re not far away,” Miller said.

The county hopes to finish phase one construction by spring and begin phase two by fall 2026.
