Trunk or Treat Controversy
SALISBURY, Md. — Residents with loved ones buried at Wicomico Memorial Park are pushing back against plans for a Trunk or Treat event at the cemetery.
The event was reportedly canceled after residents expressed concerns on social media.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, one upset resident addressed the community, receiving more than 80 shares. She said she spoke with the cemetery manager, who claimed the cemetery had contacted the families of those buried there.
Shirley Foreman, whose son is buried at Wicomico Memorial Park, expressed her dismay at the event.
“The intentional use of the cemetery as a backdrop for a Halloween event is just extremely disrespectful, and obviously to many of the other families,” Foreman said.
Residents voiced their anger about the Trunk or Treat plans on Facebook, with some saying, “A graveyard and cemetery should be cherished and respected.”
Organizers of the event have canceled their plans in response to the backlash.
