Today is Walk Maryland Day
MARYLAND. — Wednesday is Walk Maryland Day. The statewide initiative is always held on the first Wednesday in October.
It is a call to action to promote awareness and encourage Marylanders to get moving.
In Worcester County, parks such as Sturgis and Byrd were filled with people exercising.
Children played basketball and said walking is something they do every day.
“We live close. It’s about a five-minute walk, which is not that far. It’s healthy because you can be lazy and walk. It’s not running, it’s walking,” one child said.
The state hopes people will join the Walktober movement, which encourages making at least 150 minutes of physical activity a weekly, year-round habit.
