Teen Arrested on Felony Gun Charges after being Stopped on Scooter
WYOMING, Del. – The Delaware State Police arrested a teenager on Tuesday night after conducting a traffic stop on the teen’s motorized scooter.
At approximately 8:50 p.m. on Oct. 28, a trooper reportedly saw a motorized scooter, with no light, traveling on Layton Avenue. The trooper pulled the scooter over and spoke to the driver, identified as a 16-year-old male. While speaking with the teenager, the trooper saw a rectangular shaped object near his waistband. When the teen was asked if he had anything on him, he fled from the scene.
After a short foot pursuit, the teenager was taken into custody without incident. During a subsequent search of the teen, the trooper found a loaded Polymer 80 9mm handgun, with no serial number, in his waistband.
The teenager was taken to DSP Troop 3 where he was charged with multiple gun-related felonies, in addition to resisting arrest and unlawful operation of a motorized scooter on a public road.
