Summer cruising through Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, Md. – The 28th annual Endless Summer Cruisin’ is back in Ocean City for the entire weekend. The event spans the entire island, from the Ocean City Inlet and the Convention Center.
The show was attended by more than 3,000 custom cars. One enthusiast, Michael George, said his car is incredible. “This is my 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle”
His journey to the event began in Richmond, Virginia. He told WMDT he had attended Summer Cruisin’ 11 times. He had a unique way of purchasing his Chevy.
“I got this car when I was 16 years old. I gave the man $100 for it 50 years ago. I was 16 then, and I’m 66 now.”
Bryan Smith visited from Hartford County – he purchased his Pontiac Grand Prix because it reminded him of his old gold Pontiac Grand Prix his father gave him during childhood. “It just has sentimental value, and I really like the car. Most people don’t.”
Smith opted to keep his car stock, unlike most of the others there. “It’s somebody’s grandmother’s car, and it sat in the garage for a long time, and only has about 23,000 miles on it. It’s almost completely original.”
Another connoisseur, Sarah Peca, had her own west-coast inspired lowrider. She tells WMDT it wasn’t cheap to make. “It’s a 1964 Impala Convertible SS, with hydraulics, custom interior, rebuilt motor, all the things — probably about $100,000 total.”
She even has a custom license plate that reads ‘It’s Mine.’ She fully embraces the custom car, and hopes people can respect it.
“For a lowrider, or a car in general of this caliber, a lot of times, people don’t think it’s my car, they think it’s a guys car, so I like to tell them it’s mine.”
