Salisbury University hosts open houses

SALISBURY, Md. — This fall, high school students are getting a firsthand look at what life on the Salisbury University campus looks like. The university is hosting an open house on Saturday, Oct. 4, where prospective students can tour residence halls, meet current students, and picture their future at SU.

Salisbury University’s director of admissions, Beth Skoglund, says attending the open house is the best way for prospective students to get familiar with the campus.

“Getting a feel for the campus is the best way to really see the fit, and that’s what we like to encourage: for people to visit the campus,” Skoglund said.

The university hosts the open house every year, giving high school juniors and seniors a chance to meet faculty, connect with other students, and learn more about undergraduate programs.

“There are usually representatives from all the different majors available at the open houses, or at least somebody who knows about the majors,” Skoglund said.

Campus tour guide Hailey Lacey said students at the open houses are always eager to hear what life is like as a Gull.

“I’d definitely say for prospective students, the most exciting thing for them is seeing the residence halls,” Lacey said.

Lacey said she especially likes to talk about the teacher-to-student ratio and all the fun ways to get involved on campus.

“Expressing to the students that here, I always feel like the professors are doing their best to make sure we’re exceeding. They give us every resource to succeed, and it’s just up to the students to take advantage of the resources we have,” Lacey said.
