EASTON, Md. – The Talbot County State’s Attorney Office announced on Monday that a man from Quantico has received a life sentence after pleading guilty to attempted first degree murder.

Antonio Lamont Bolden, 37, plead guilty to attempted first degree murder on Oct. 7 after shooting his coworker at a gas station last year. Bolden was sentenced to life with an active sentence of 35 years to serve in the Maryland Department of Corrections. His incarceration will be followed by five years of supervised probation and a 15 year consecutive sentence from the Dorchester County Circuit Court.

On Sept. 17, 2024, police were dispatched to the Freedom Fuel gas station on Ocean Gateway in Trappe for a report of assault with a firearm. Upon arrival on the scene, investigators located a victim lying on the ground, with significant gunshot wounds to the face and wrist.  The victim, 29-year-old Aigner Smith of Salisbury, was airlifted to shock trauma and has since recovered from his injuries.

Through an investigation, authorities learned that Bolden and Smith were coworkers at a job that Bolden had just begun working at two days prior. Smith reported that while the two were driving to a jobsite in a company van, Bolden asked him to pull over into a gas station lot. After parking at the gas station, Bolden removed a handgun from his waistband and fired three to four shots at Smith. There was no prior history between Bolden and Smith, nor was there a provocation or disagreement leading up to the shooting.

After shooting Smith, Bolden removed him from the vehicle before assuming the driver’s seat and fleeing from the scene. Bolden was apprehended shortly after in Cambridge after engaging in a short foot pursuit with police and attempting to take another vehicle. A search of Bolden’s person located the .45-caliber handgun used in the shooting, as well as additional ammunition.
