Pride of Baltimore II Returns to Dorchester Co.
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The Pride of Baltimore II is back on the Choptank River.
WMDT spoke with Captain of the Pride of Baltimore II this morning about returning to Dorchester County, and how exciting it is to have a floating artifact like this visiting the Eastern Shore.
Captain Jeff Crosby says it’s one of the last appearances for the ship in 2025.
“We’re headed up to Chestertown, Maryland, for our last event of the year. And we have have some time to swing into Cambridge. And it’s always a really warm welcome here. So it’s really awesome to be back on the Cambridge waterfront,” says Captain Crosby.
For history buffs like Marcos Salaverria, the Executive Director at the Dorchester County Historical Society, welcoming this historical tall ship back is an exciting opportunity.
Marcos says, “…During the War of 1812, The Battle of Ice Mount happened here on the Choptank.. So to see those sails crest the horizon of the champ tank indeed is a traveling opportunity. Back in time.”
The ship also serves as a symbol of state unity.
Captain Crosby says, “It’s also really nice to connect to the waterfront history of Baltimore with the waterfront history of Cambridge and, Chesapeake Bay water craft and their design, which pride represents. So it’s really cool to kind of connect those two towns together.”
And since the ship is not staying in Cambridge forever, Salaverria says now’s the time to get you own look, before she’s gone.
Marcos tells us, “<I hope we will see many more maritime sales activities.>
But if you don’t, there will be more memories to be made on deck. The Pride of Baltimore II will be in the Cambridge Harbor through Sunday, October 26th.
