One in Critical Condition following Industrial Accident in Dewey Beach; Police Investigating

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – The Dewey Beach Police Department (DBPD) is investigating an industrial accident that left one critically injured Monday morning.

At approximately 8:48 a.m. on Oct. 20, emergency responders were dispatched to the 1500 block of Coastal Highway following reports of an electrocution. A preliminary investigation indicates that a concrete crewmember was working on the third floor of the structure when they made contact with an electrical line using a concrete float. The line in question runs along Coastal Highway adjacent to the building.

DBPD officers were the first to arrive on scene, and successfully moved the victim to the first floor. They were shortly after assisted by members of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company and Sussex County EMS.

Emergency personnel provided advanced medical care at the scene. The patient was transferred to a Delaware State Police Aviation Unit helicopter and airlifted to Christiana Medical Center in critical condition.

This incident remains under investigation by DBPD.
