Murphy Family Hosts 19th Annual Marshmallows with the Murphys

(HURLOCK, Md) – Hurlock Town Council Member Earl Murphy, and his wife Michelle have been busy preparing for hundreds of kids to make their way to their quiet neighborhood for Halloween night. For the annual Marshmallows with the Murphys.

An event that took off 19 years ago and has become a generational tradition in North Dorchester.

Earl tells WMDT, “…It’s been open to everybody every year, and we’re hoping to make this a fun evening for everyone that comes in a positive, safe environment with the police department, the fire department and all the other organizations…”

This year’s event has Earl and his wife, Michelle busy as they prepare everything from candy, to food, to hayrides through the neighborhood.

Even getting some help from those in and around Dorchester County and Hurlock.

“With me, it means a lot to us because, like I said, I went into the community. This is our first time doing it. I understand Mr. Murphy has been doing it for 19 years, I believe. So for us to be a part of this one so we could continue for it. I think it’s a great opportunity,” says Darrell Hurston, whose volunteering for the first time.

And for nearly 20 years, the Murphys are creating a tradition that’s being passed from one generation to the next.

As some of the grown-ups who helped make Marshmallows with the Murphys a Halloween staple. They’re now bringing their kids to the fun.

“We have new families that move into the community that go we hear was that is the place to be. It is just amazing that we are creating and making memories with all of these families in our community,” says Michelle Murphy.

Earl says he prepared more than 800 hot dogs and smores for those in attendance.
