Meet the Candidates Running for Mayor of Hurlock
(HURLOCK, Md) – On November 1st, residents in the town of Hurlock will cast their votes for who they want to be the mayor of the North Dorchester County community. And we got a chance to sit down with both of the candidates.
The mayoral race will be decided between incumbent mayor, Bishop Charles Cephas – who is running for re-election, and Hurlock Town Council President, Earl Murphy.
WMDT got a chance to sit down with both men prior to Saturday’s election, with both getting to make their case.
“I have helped it all the people of Hurlock. And I love all the people of Hurlock and I don’t think that Hurlock has done anything but grow,” says Mayor Cephas.
While Murphy says, “While we have forward thinking ideas for what we are now, our seniors are looking forward to what they can do tomorrow, which is the future for them. And every day makes a difference for everybody.”
Murphy is running on the idea that the future of Hurlock is going to come from the people who make up the North Dorchester County Community.
He tells us, “So why aren’t we looking at the local business that is considered a grocery store? We can enhance what we already have with not as much money as you may want to spend to build a building and then maybe attract someone to come in there.”
While Mayor Cephas says he believes it could be time for expansion.
Mayor Cephas explains, “I have been working with a contractor, developer and several state officials that will help us to bring actually a small strip mall into the town of Hurlock.”
Voting for Hurlock elections will take place Saturday, November 1st from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. at Hurlock Elementary School.
