Mayors from across Delmarva collaborated at Salisbury Chamber forum event

BERLIN, Md. – The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the Mayors of Delmarva forum. Business members across Delmarva got together to hear from various mayors from various towns and municipalities.

Chamber President Bill Chambers, calls the mayors an integral part of the peninsula. “It’s important to hear from the heartbeat of Delmarva, and that is our towns and cities.”

The special panel discussion and luncheon focused on a variety of topics, including jurisdictions’ budget issues, higher labor costs, and inflation. Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor called it an opportunity to collaborate.

“I think it’s good whenever you get a group of mayors together having a conversation about multiple topics. You hear things that may not occur to you, and it’s always good to collaborate.”

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan agrees that events like this are uncommon. He adds that building these relationships is very essential.

“I think it’s unique, and I thank the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce for putting this on. It’s not often you’re in a room with mayors from up and down the Delmarva Peninsula.”

Cambridge Mayor, Lajan Cephas, heard many challenges from the mayors. She tells WMDT, learning new solutions to vulnerable areas was key.

“Being here today is really great, because it gives a good opportunity for mayors, like myself, Cambridge, to talk to other mayors. I figure out what their challenges were, and what solutions they find to overcome those challenges.”

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce will continue to host events and mixers with community members.

Chambers was pleased with how the mayor forum played out.

“This is a great opportunity to forge new relationships. We are a regional economy, we’re not just Maryland, Delaware, Virginia. We are a regional economy.”
