Man Sentenced to 258 Years in Connection with Block Party Shooting

SALISBURY, Md. – The Office of the State’s Attorney (SA) for Wicomico County announced on Thursday that another man has been sentenced in connection with the block party shooting that took place shortly after midnight on Jul. 5, 2023.

On Oct. 16, 28-year-old Antravon Harmon of Salisbury, was sentenced by Judge Matthew A. Maciarello following a five-day jury trial that concluded in July. He was convicted on on eight counts of first degree assault, eight counts of firearm use in a crime of violence, and other related firearms offenses. Harmon was sentenced to a total term of 258 years, with the possibility of parole after 45 years served.

Harmon was implicated in the shootout that took place at a Fourth of July black party celebration in the area of Chippewa and Kiowa Avenue. Seven individuals were left wounded by the gunfire, and one 14-year-old Xavier Maddox was killed in the fight. Two other individuals have been convicted and sentenced on charges of first degree murder for the killing of Maddox; 17-year-old J’Shawn Drayton and 19-year-old Cashmir Holbrook, both of Salisbury.

“This violence in our community causes endless pain and suffering and must stop,” said SA Jamie L. Dykes in a statement. “For the sake of the victims in this case and all the law abiding citizens of Wicomico County, I hope the Court’s sentence today will serve as notice to those who would inflict this harm on others that there is a price to pay for such action.”

SA Dykes commended the members of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, the Salisbury Police Department, and the Maryland State Police for their response to this tragic event. She also commended the lead investigator, Detective Kirkpatrick, and Deputy SA Scott Messersmith for their work in this case.
