Highlighting Disability Employment Awareness in Denton
(DENTON, Md) – Just inside the doors at Bullocks’ Deli in Denton, we’re taking a look at the impact one employee has had as she’s living out her dream.
Meet Abby Gibbons, an employee of Bullock’s Deli in Denton, and thanks to a little help from groups like Fello, she’s been a part of the team in the kitchen for the last nine years.
She’s doing her favorite thing: Cooking.
Abby says, “When I first started cooking, that was a long time ago. There were some skills I learned. Like I said before, I started with the ice cream stuff first before I started in the kitchen.”
Fello has been helping Marylanders with developmental disabilities find employment, and continue to develop their skills much like Abby’s in the kitchen.
“And sometimes all they need is a chance. And as you can see with Abby, she’s been able to more than prove herself through hard work, determination. And again, that smile and that personality that just lights up the entire deli when she gets here in the morning, you can’t really put that on a resume,” says Fello’s Workforce Development Manager, William Rothrock.
And for Michelle Bullock, who oversees the family deli, Abby feels like the linchpin in this community market.
Michelle tells us, “As much as I think that it does mean to Abby to be here, it means just as much or more for our staff and our customers to see Abby as well. She’s a very important part of us.”
And Abby loves getting to take part in one of her favorite things with the community behind her.
“Because I love it here. And I hear so many guys, that star I know, people from schools. Anything I know I love.”
