Foodie Friday: Little Italy

SELBYVILLE, Del. – There’s something special about being able to cook your traditional dishes and serve them up for folks to enjoy. Lori Alvarez and Damiana Dell’Arena are doing that and then some in their food truck, Little Italy.

From bite sized cauliflower croquettes to decadent creme brulee, the duo made sure WMDT’s Leila Weah tried a little bit of everything.

“This little ball of goodness; it’s so golden brown, I love this color on it, it looks like I’m looking at cilantro and some parmesan on top, so let’s dip it in this sauce,” Leila said, dipping the ball of goodness into the marinara sauce.

“This is delectable. If you don’t eat meat, this is something that will get you started off before you have the other menu items. This is a really nice appetizer, or you can have it as a dish, if you’re vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian. This is good,” she added.

Speaking of pescetarian, the ladies want everyone to have options when ordering off their menu. Damiana made their famous halibut, with a surprising yet flavorful twist.

“This is just so aesthetically pleasing. This little sprout of basil that they put on it with the figs; I love figs, and I just feel like this is really going to play into the sweet and savory,” Leila said. “This is such an interesting combination for a dish, but it works so well together. I can’t explain it, it’s something about their peach puree, and their peaches are fresh.”

The meal wouldn’t be complete without a sweet treat. For this full course meal, Damiana decided a creme brulee finale would be fitting.

“It’s so silky and smooth. The custard itself just melts in your mouth right when it hits you,” Leila said.
