Dagsboro Police Arrest Man on 7th DUI Offense after Hit & Run

Joseph Longfellow

DAGSBORO, Del. – The Dagsboro Police Department arrested a man on multiple charges, including a seventh driving under the influence (DUI) offense, after he committed a hit and run on Saturday.

On Oct. 25, officers responded to Armory Road at Prince George’s Drive for a reported hit and run crash involving injuries. The victims in the struck vehicle included two children, a senior adult, and a pregnant woman. They were all evaluated by EMS and hospital staff, and later released.

The other vehicle, driven by 42-year-old Joseph Longfellow, was located in a crash a short distance away.

Police determined that after Longfellow had struck the vehicle with the victims, he attempted to flee at a high rate of speed. He subsequently collided with an Indian River High School license plate reader camera and a telephone pole, causing extensive damage to his vehicle.

Longfellow was transported by ambulance to South Coastal Hospital, where he resisted arrest, assaulting officers and a nurse. He also threatened the life of a Dagsboro police officer. Longfellow was later released from medical care and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $26,006 cash bail and a $12,000 violation of probation hold.

Longfellow has been charged with a seventh DUI offense, threatening severe physical injury to a public officer, two counts of second degree vehicular assault while DUI, and other related charges.
